Univision Communications has tapped the news director of its station in Sacramento, California, to lead the news operation of WGBO-Channel 66, Chicago's top-rated Spanish-language station. As vice president of news, Luis Felipe Godinez succeeds Teri Arvesu, who shifted to a new corporate role. A graduate of San Francisco State University, Godinez worked as assistant news director and executive producer at KDTV in San Franciso before joining KUVS in Sacramento in 2020. Earlier he worked in Las Vegas, Denver and Amarillo, Texas. "Luis is a forward-thinking journalist who brings with him with a wide range of experience including multimedia journalist, executive producer and five years as assistant news director in San Francisco," Doug Levy, president and general manager of Univision Chicago, told staffers in an email. "With so many amazing professionals working here in Chicago, I am excited to see how Luis will help to shape our newsroom to best position us for growth and success in the future."
Brittany Garzillo
Brittany Garzillo, a general assignment reporter and fill-in news anchor at Fox-owned WFLD-Channel 32, is moving up to Fox News as a New York-based reporter. Garzillo joined Fox 32 in early 2020 from WGAL, the NBC affiliate in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she was a traffic anchor and reporter. The Lehigh Valley native and graduate of Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, previously worked for WLVT, the PBS station in Bethlehem.
Lisa Miner
Lisa Miner, who joined the Daily Herald as a reporter in 1984 and rose to entertainment/regional editor, has been promoted to assistant managing editor/news. The move was part of a newsroom reorganization following the retirement of Pete Nenni as deputy managing editor. Other appointments announced by editor John Lampinen and managing editor Jim Baumann include: Renee Trappe as deputy managing editor/local news; Caroline Linden as director of community and entertainment news; Kay Long as senior niche editor; Kelly Vold as senior digital editor/engagement; Chuck Keeshan as weekend editor; and Madhu Krishnamurthy and Susan Klovstad as assistant weekend editors. Matt Spiegel
There's another way to hear “The Run: 2016 Chicago Cubs,” the eight-part podcast series on the team's World Series championship run, hosted by comedian Roy Wood Jr. of “The Daily Show” and Matt Spiegel, afternoon co-host of Audacy sports/talk WSCR 670-AM. Starting Tuesday the series will air in installments at 10 p.m. on select evenings. Airdates are October 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 26 and 27 and November 3. It’s the first joint venture between Audacy’s new 2400Sports podcast studio and Major League Baseball. Justin Kaufmann worked with executive producer Jody Avirgan on editing and production.
Lucy Dacus
In their first live event since the COVID-19 shutdown, "Sound Opinions" co-hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot will appear onstage to tape their podcast October 10 at Chicago's Thalia Hall, 1807 South Allport Street. The two critics will interview singer Lucy Dacus, who'll also perform a short set with her band. DeRogatis and Kot have called her one of the best songwriters of the past decade. Tickets are free, but must be reserved in advance. (Here is the link for tickets.)
