Robservations: 'Scorecard' tees up 10th year on The Score

Ed Sherman and Steve Olken this weekend tee up the 10th year of "The Scorecard on The Score," their weekly golf talk show on Entercom sports/talk WSCR 670-AM. It will air from 6 to 8 a.m. Saturdays for 22 weeks through the end of August. Sherman and Olken will preview the Masters with NBC Golf Channel analyst Mark Rolfing and offer tips from local pros. This also marks the start of Olken's 20th year on The Score.

College students and young professionals are invited to attend the annual Career Day hosted by the Chicago/Midwest chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. It runs from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 13 at Columbia College Chicago, 600 South Michigan Avenue. (Here is the link.) Among this year's panelists are Melissa Forman, morning host on iHeartMedia adult contemporary WLIT 93.9-FM; Teri Arvesu, vice president of content at Univision Chicago; David Parrish, news producer at NBC-owned WMAQ-Channel 5; and Elliott Ramos, digital reporter and editor at Chicago Public Media.

"16 Shots"

Chicago Public Media WBEZ 91.5-FM and the Chicago Tribune won first prize in Amnesty International USA's Media Awards for "16 Shots," the 30-part podcast series on the shooting of Laquan McDonald and the cover-up by Chicago police. The ambitious collaborative effort, which included coverage of the the trial of Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke, was cited this week in the domestic news category. Also honored posthumously was Jamal Khashoggi, the Washington Post journalist murdered in the Turkish consulate of Saudi Arabia.

Steve Patterson

Steve Patterson was an outstanding reporter for the Sun-Times and the Gary Post-Tribune before he left the newspaper world to become director of communications for Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart. He later segued to Res Publica Group, the Chicago public relations agency. Now Patterson has joined Jarrard, a strategic communications firm focused on the healthcare industry. As a national vice president, he’ll work in the Nashville-based company’s Chicago office.
