CBS Radio Chicago has reached out to Richmond, Virginia, for its new afternoon personality on country WUSN FM 99.5.

Mike Kasper, who most recently was afternoon host, assistant program director and music director at WRVQ in Richmond, will join US 99.5 from 3 to 7 p.m. weekdays, starting April 20. He succeeds Shila Nathan, who left in January for WNSH in New York.

“I have been a fan of Kasper’s for many years, and I’m very excited to have him join the air staff at US 99.5,” program director Jeff Kapugi said in announcing the hiring Thursday.

Kasper, who goes only by his last name on the air, began his career in his native Youngstown, Ohio. Between there and Richmond, where he’s worked since 2013, he held positions in Cleveland, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Erie, Pennsylvania; and Roanoke, Virgina.

He has voice-tracked a weekend show for iHeartMedia Top 40 WKSC FM 103.5 here, among other stations across the country.

"Ecstatic doesn't even come close to describing how I feel about joining US 99.5 — one of the most preeminent country stations in America,” Kasper said in a statement. “I'm beyond thrilled to work with a legendary programmer like Jeff Kapugi and to join the amazing team at US 99.5 and CBS Radio Chicago.”

In the latest Nielsen Audio survey, US 99.5 tied for 11th place in afternoons with a 2.9 percent share and cumulative weekly audience of 486,900.
