Harry Porterfield

Celebrated Chicago journalists Harry Porterfield, Jon Hilkevitch and Linda Lenz have been named recipients of Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Chicago Headline Club.

The three will be honored May 6 at the group’s 39th annual Peter Lisagor Awards dinner at The Union League Club of Chicago, 65 West Jackson Street.

Porterfield, whose career spanned more than 50 years as a news anchor and reporter at CBS-owned WBBM-Channel 2 and ABC-owned WLS-Channel 7, was best known for “Someone You Should Know,” his signature series of personality profiles, which he launched in 1977. He left CBS 2 last December.

Hilkevitch, longtime transportation writer and columnist who accepted a buyout last December after more than 36 years at the Chicago Tribune, will be cited for his work as a beat reporter “holding officials accountable for delivering essential services to the city while regularly helping to improve people's daily lives.”

Linda Lenz

Lenz was the city’s premier authority on education reform for more than 25 years as founder and publisher of Catalyst Chicago, the vital and award-winning news organization and school reform watchdog. She previously was education reporter at the Sun-Times, an editorial writer and reporter for the Chicago Daily News, and political editor of the Pioneer Press.

Peter Lisagor Award finalists will be announced in April. Established in 1977 and named for the late Chicago Daily News Washington bureau chief, the awards honor excellence in local journalism in more than 100 categories, encompassing print, broadcast and digital media.
