CBS 2 cameraman robbed on Super Bowl assignment in San Francisco

A cameraman for WBBM-Channel 2 was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday night while on assignment in San Francisco for the CBS-owned station.

Marcus Richardson, who was covering preparations for the upcoming Super Bowl, reported he was photographing a “beauty shot” (TV news slang for a scenic image) when a gunman held him up.

“They took everything,” Richardson wrote on Facebook. “I am at a complete loss for words and I am sad beyond belief. This is the lowest I’ve ever been doing this job.”

CBS 2 did not report on the incident, but spokeswoman Shawnelle Richie confirmed Richardson’s account and said: “Thankfully Marcus did not get hurt.” Richardson was on assignment with CBS 2 sports anchor Ryan Baker, who was not present when the incident occurred.

Super Bowl 50 will be played Sunday between the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The game will air on CBS.

And in other news I got robbed shooting a beauty shot. They took everything. I am at a complete loss for words and I am sad beyond belief. This is the lowest I’ve ever been doing this job. I am ok they only threatened with a gun. I’m just disappointed and now I have no gear, house/car keys, medication and whatever else was in my backpack. Criminals suck.
