Jon Hansen, the audio guru of DNAinfo.com Chicago, is leaving to join Weigel Broadcasting as social media coordinator and on-air correspondent for “You & Me,” WCIU-Channel 26’s weekday morning talk show.

Hansen’s appointment to the newly created position, effective December 1, was announced Wednesday by Rob Morhaim, senior executive producer of “You & Me.”

As radio news director for DNAinfo Chicago since February 2014, Hansen has been overseeing the hyperlocal news operation’s 24-hour neighborhood news radio station and contributing daily reports to Tribune Media news/talk WGN AM 720.

"We’re grateful to Jon for his invaluable help launching DNAinfo Radio, including his smart approach to reaching listeners through embedded interviews within stories, podcasts and audio playlists,” said Shamus Toomey, manager editor of DNAinfo Chicago. “We wish him well in his new adventures.”

Hansen, who grew up in west suburban Downers Grove and graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana, served as Midwest correspondent for 24/7 News Source and as a news and traffic reporter for Total Traffic in Chicago. He also worked as an airborne reporter for CBS-owned WBBM-Channel 2 and as fill-in traffic anchor at Fox-owned WFLD-Channel 32. Hansen continues as backup public-address announcer for the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center.

Jeanne Sparrow and Melissa Forman host “You & Me” from 6 to 9 a.m. weekdays on The U.
