A new live, local morning show, billed as “Los Chavalones de La Ley,” debuted Tuesday on WLEY FM 107.9, the Spanish Broadcasting System regional Mexican station.

Meaning “young crew” in Spanish slang, “Los Chavalones” features Ivan "El Ivan" Paez, Diane "La Diane" Fong and Juan “El Pop” Cristobal. Paez and Cristobal previously hosted afternoons at KBUE in Los Angeles.

The new team succeeds Rafael “El Pistolero” Pulido, who was dropped last month after little more than a year as morning host on La Ley. Fong had been his co-host since last May.

Leti Aguilera, vice president and general manager of La Ley, promised the new show would “bring an exciting, energetic and fresh perspective to morning radio.” Noting that Paez and Cristobal hail from Sinaloa, Mexico, she said: “Their unique creativity and stylistic approach has turned them into a social media sensation across both sides of the Mexican border.”

In the latest Nielsen Audio ratings, La Ley tied for 29th in mornings with a 1.1 percent share and cumulative weekly audience of 176,300.

“We are investing in a new era of Spanish radio that can speak to, better engage and resonate among millennials (ages 21-34) and Generation X (ages 35-49),” Aguilera said in a statement. “Listeners can expect up beat regional Mexican hits, high energy, relevant topics, entertainment and lifestyle features that relate to our listeners on a very personal level.”
