Three years ago Leti Aguilera was the marketing and promotion director at  WLEY FM 107.9. Today she’s vice president general manager of the Spanish Broadcasting System’s regional Mexican station known as La Ley.

Her rise is even more remarkable considering that Aguilera had been away from the station from August 2012 until last January, when she rejoined La Ley as local sales manager.

“I am thrilled and honored to have this exciting opportunity,” Aguilera said. “This particular station is very special to me as I have a long history in multiple departments. La Ley has a dynamic team in place that is focused on improving ratings and continued revenue growth.”

Aguilera’s appointment to the top job last week followed the promotion of her mentor, Joe Mackay, from general manager to executive vice president of national and network sales for Spanish Broadcasting System. Mackay’s move culminated an internal management shakeup at the parent company.

Languishing in the ratings for the past decade, La Ley tied for 22nd in the latest Nielsen Audio survey with a 1.9 percent share and cumulative weekly audience of 612,000. Revenue last year was $8.59 million — down 16.7 percent in two years.

Between her two stints at La Ley, Aguilera worked briefly as an account executive at CBS Radio Top 40 WBBM FM 96.3 and as executive director of the Association of Business and Commerce for the town of Cicero. She also served as sales manager for Penn Gaming/Hollywood Casino. Earlier she worked with Mackay as a sales assistant and promotion coordinator at Crawford Broadcasting, parent company of urban contemporary WPWX FM 92.3 and urban adult-contemporary WSRB FM 106.3.

A graduate of Moraine Valley Community College, she began as a promotions and morning show assistant at iHeartMedia Top 40 WKSC FM 103.5.
