Kristina, whose full name is Kristina Zsenyuk, joins the iHeartMedia hot adult-contemporary station here June 1. She will replace Paul “Cubby” Bryant, whose New York-based morning show has been airing on 93.9 MyFM since July 2013.
It’s the company’s latest switch from voice-tracked and syndicated programs back to local broadcasting under Matt Scarano, president of iHeartMedia Chicago.
The move reunites Kristina with Mick Lee, program director and afternoon personality at WLIT. The two previously worked together at KKRZ in Portland, where Kristina was midday host and music director and Lee was afternoon host and assistant program director.
“I’m so excited to have Kristina join our team at 93.9 MyFM,” Lee said in a statement. “Her talent, creativity and charismatic personality will fit well in Chicago.”
Kristina most recently hosted mornings and doubled as music director at iHeartMedia’s KXJM in Portland. “After working my entire career in the Portland market, I was waiting for the perfect opportunity and finally found it working in Chi-Town on 93.9 MyFM,” she said in a statement Thursday. (It was the last time she will ever refer to Chicago as “Chi-Town,” the statement did not say.)
In 2005 Kristina was crowned Miss Plus America Elite in a national beauty pageant for full-figured women. “I have been truly blessed being able to represent the real American woman,” she said at the time. “I am here to help prove, that we are just as intelligent, sexy, and worthy as the women with less than 2 percent body fat.”
In the latest Nielsen Audio survey, Bryant’s morning show on WLIT tied for 10th place with a 3.4 percent share and cumulative weekly audience of 603,300. Among women between 25 and 54, it ranked fourth with a 5.4 share and 189,300 cume.
Bryant will continue to host mornings at WKTU in New York.
