Chris Martinez

Chris Martinez, a general assignment reporter at CBS-owned WBBM-Channel 2, is leaving to become a Los Angeles-based correspondent for CBS Newspath.

Martinez will join the network’s 24-hour newsgathering service effective May 4.

“Looking forward to joining the team!” he tweeted. “I'll miss my CBS 2 fam!”

A CBS 2 spokeswoman said the station has posted an opening for his position.

Martinez was hired at CBS 2 in 2012 after working as a reporter and news anchor at WFTS-TV, the ABC affiliate in Tampa, Florida, and Central Florida News in Orlando. A Miami native and graduate of Florida State University, Martinez began his career at WCTV-TV, the CBS affiliate in Tallahassee.

Martinez is no relation to Mai Martinez, weekend news anchor at CBS 2.
