Feature reporter Vince Gerasole is the latest anchor du jour alongside Erin Kennedy as WBBM-Channel 2 moves to recast its weekday morning newscast yet again.

Friday was the last day at the CBS-owned station for Kris Gutierrez, who never lost his homesickness for Texas and packed it in after three years to join KXAS-TV, the NBC-owned station in Dallas. Don't worry if you never heard of him. You're not alone.

“So thankful for our time in Chicago,” Gutierrez tweeted. “But also thankful to be leaving this behind! #snow #Texas here we come!”

Now CBS 2 is in the market to find a new partner for Kennedy, who signed on only last spring. It took the station a full year to hire her as successor to Susan Carlson, who exited in May 2013.

As usual, news director Jeff Kiernan is playing it all close to the vest. “We'll have a few different people covering until the position is filled,” said a spokeswoman for the station.

Besides, what’s the rush? CBS 2 remains a distant fourth in overall households and among viewers between 25 and 54. In the adult demos, the station’s ratings last month were down 40 percent from the previous year for the 5 a.m. hour and 20 percent for the 6 a.m. hour.
