Brunson’s back on the eat beat

Ted Brunson, who stepped down last May after more than three years as creator, host and producer of “Chicago’s Best,” is back on the beat.

Starting Thursday, Brunson will present an online video feature spotlighting notable neighborhood restaurants and bars for DNAinfo.com/Chicago, the hyperlocal news website launched last November. “Good in the Hood with Ted Brunson” will appear several times a month.

“We are very excited to work with Ted,” Shamus Toomey, managing editor of DNAinfo, said in a statement. “We were always impressed by his energetic on-air performance and the loyal following he enjoys on social media. Now Ted and DNAinfo will work together to find the great Chicago neighborhood joints that not everyone knows about.”

Brunson won a Chicago Emmy as outstanding host for his work on “Chicago’s Best,” the weekly food show he started on Tribune Broadcasting WGN-Channel 9 in 2010. On his decision to leave after more than 100 episodes, he told DNAinfo: “The fact is when you work for a corporation like the Tribune Company, as much as I respect the Tribune Company, I’d like to have a little more control of what I do, and I’d like to make a little more money.”

He most recently has been posting “Brunson’s Best” videos on his website and YouTube channel.

“Chicago’s Best” continues to air at 10 p.m. Sundays on Channel 9 with Brunson’s former co-host, Brittney Payton.
