Amy Guth, who's been a rising star at Tribune Co. since she began as a digital editor in 2009, has been promoted to general manager of RedEye, the daily tabloid newspaper, and Metromix, the website.

Guth most recently has been social media and SEO manager for Chicago Tribune Media Group. An author, blogger, broadcaster and social media expert, she also is president of the Association for Women Journalists Chicago. In 2011, the Texas native was named to Chicago magazine's list of "The 50 Most Beautiful Chicagoans."

Here is the memo from Joseph A. Schiltz, senior vice president of marketing and targeted media for Tribune Media Group, announcing her promotion Wednesday:

"I am excited to announce that Amy Guth has been named the new General Manager of RedEye and Metromix.

"Amy joins the Targeted Media team after working as Social Media and SEO Manager for the Chicago Tribune Media Group since 2011. In that role, she developed and applied social media and SEO tactics to support the company’s digital strategy and adapt to evolving reader and industry behavior. Amy first joined the Tribune in 2009 as Digital Editor of the Chicago Tribune’s books section, covering local literature and the then-rise of digital publishing. She also co-hosted programming on WGN-AM and helped in the early content development phases of Chicago Now.

"Prior to joining the Tribune, Amy founded Pilcrow Lit Fest, a successful independent press publishing festival, where she developed an online and event-based community for small publishers, authors and local brands to connect and collaborate around important industry topics.

"Amy has a diverse background working across all platforms within several industries and an entrepreneurial passion that will make her a valuable asset to the RedEye team. She is at the forefront of all things social media and has the digital acumen needed to capitalize on emerging marketplace opportunities. Her eclectic resume and enthusiasm for thinking outside the box make her an ideal candidate for this position.

"Effective Tuesday, Amy will be responsible for managing the RedEye and Metromix brands. Reporting to her will be Annie Ryan, Business Development Manager, Courtney Linehan, Content Managing Editor and the to-be-named Digital Editor.

"Please join me in congratulating Amy on her new role."
