The long-rumored breakup of ESPN Radio morning hosts Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic after 19 years is official. Greenberg will be leaving to host a new morning show for ESPN TV, starting in January. Joining Golic this fall on the radio show, which airs here on sports/talk WMVP AM 1000, will be ESPN’s Trey Wingo and Mike Golic, Jr. Greenberg, a Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism graduate, got his start in Chicago as a radio and TV sportscaster. In the latest Nielsen Audio survey, ESPN Radio 1000 tied for 22nd in morning drive with a 1.8 percent audience share.

Matt Abbatacola

Elsewhere on the sports/talk beat, Matt Abbatacola has called it quits after 16 years as producer, host and update anchor at CBS Radio WSCR AM 670. He had a long run as executive producer of Terry Boers and Dan Bernstein’s afternoon show, but was passed over earlier this year when Jason Goff replaced Boers alongside Bernstein. Mitch Rosen, operations director of The Score, confirmed Abbatacola’s resignation to pursue other opportunities, adding: “I wish him nothing but the best.” Abbatacola declined to comment.

Ron Magers

One year after Ron Magers retired from Chicago television news, he’s back in the spotlight thanks to Chicagoly, the quarterly magazine published by 22nd Century Media. The summer issue, to be published next week, features a profile of the laid-back former anchorman, who now divides his time between homes in Chicago and Aventura, Florida. “The greatest difference in my life since I retired is my whole day is no longer driven by the clock,” he tells writer Neil Milbert. “I’m grateful that I worked long enough to know that I worked long enough. . . . I miss some of the clowns but I don’t miss the circus.”

Steve Darnall

AccuRadio, the Chicago-based multichannel webcaster, is teaming up with Steve Darnall, host and producer of “Those Were the Days,” to create a new channel devoted to the music of World War II. Debuting next Monday — Memorial Day — it will feature samples of wartime radio news and entertainment programs in addition to music from the early ’40s. “The Music of World War II” will be accessible free at accuradio.com. Throughout the year Darnall is commemorating the 75th anniversary of World War II on “Those Were the Days” from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturdays on College of DuPage’s WDCB FM 90.9.

Michael Phillips

Chicago Tribune movie critic Michael Phillips this weekend will host “The Film Score: Music for Memorial Day,” his latest special on Window to the World Communications classical WFMT FM 98.7. The one-hour special highlights scores of such war films as “The Big Parade,” “The Best Years of Our Lives,” “The Great Escape,” “Glory,” "Saving Private Ryan” and “Patton.” It will air at 7 p.m. Saturday and again at 10 p.m. on Memorial Day.

There’s no more news on Dave Fogel’s morning show. CBS Radio classic hits WJMK FM 104.3 has dropped David Hagen’s daily news essays after more than four years. His contract was not renewed earlier this month. “It was a great ride,” Hagen said of his time on K-Hits. “I have not taken a single week's vacation from the news since 2007. I'm doing that now. I'll see if there's anything in Chicago for me, but it doesn't look rosy.”
