Friends and colleagues of the late, great Doug Banks will honor the beloved radio and television personality at a memorial service in Bronzeville next week.

“iHeartMedia Chicago Remembers Doug Banks” will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at Harold Washington Cultural Center, 4701 South Martin Luther King Drive. It will be open to the public, and doors will open at 10 a.m.

Banks died April 11 of complications from diabetes at 57. His funeral was in Dallas, where he lived with his family.

The nationally syndicated radio show Banks hosted was the top-rated afternoon program in Chicago on iHeartMedia urban adult-contemporary WVAZ FM 102.7. He previously hosted mornings and afternoons on iHeartMedia urban contemporary WGCI FM 107.5. He also was a longtime contributor to programming on ABC-owned WLS-Channel 7.

Billed as hosts of the public event are five of Banks’s longtime co-workers — V103 personalities Joe Soto and Ramonski Luv, and former co-hosts Dede McGuire, Deedee Renee and Bonnie DeShong. They will be among speakers at the program.
