Crain’s Chicago Business is throwing its hat in the political newsletter ring.

Starting February 1, Crain’s On Politics will turn up in email in-boxes at 8 a.m. Monday through Friday. With an initial distribution of more than 100,000, the free, aggregated daily newsletter will feature synopses of top political stories with links to their online sources.

The concise summaries will be aimed at “top decision makers and business executives,” according to Michael Arndt, editor of Crain’s Chicago Business. “This will give everyone the top news in politics they need for that morning — city, state and national,” he said.

Spearheading the initiative are Tom Corfman, Crain’s government and politics editor, and Greg Hinz, Crain’s star political columnist and blogger, who's now in his 20th year at the publication.

The launch of Crain’s On Politics follows the startup last fall of Politico Illinois Playbook, a comprehensive daily newsletter edited by Natasha Korecki. Korecki joined politico.com as senior political reporter from the Sun-Times, where she covered the politics beat and wrote for the paper's Early & Often political website.

Arndt said his company’s plans had been in development before Politico’s rollout here. No new personnel are being added to produce the newsletter.
