Tom Waddle and Marc Silverman better rest up now. By the end of next month they’ll be working overtime.

In addition to their local sports/talk show from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday on ESPN Radio WMVP AM 1000, “Waddle & Silvy” will be going national on the ESPN Radio network from 9 a.m. to noon the week of August 24.

That means they’ll be on the air for seven hours each day that week. “Fantastic for us, since they are currently the No. 1 sports show in Chicago,” said program director Adam Delevitt.

Waddle & Silvy are among hosts from ESPN stations in Chicago and Los Angeles filling in next month while the network seeks a replacement for the departed Colin Cowherd.

“ESPN Radio has an extensive pool of talent from our national network, local stations and ESPN television,” David Roberts, vice president, network audio content, said in a statement Thursday. “We’re excited to take advantage of this opportunity to give national radio exposure to our local hosts.”

In the latest Nielsen Audio survey, afternoons on ESPN 1000 tied for 23rd place with CBS Radio sports/talk WSCR AM 670 with a 1.9 share and cumulative weekly audience of 256,000. But ESPN 1000 was way ahead among men between 25 and 54, ranking fourth in afternoons — the best showing for any talk station — with a 4.0 share and 134,900 cume.
