Tribune Broadcasting won’t be hiring a replacement for its senior vice president of operations after all, sources said Tuesday.

Others in the Tribune Media broadcasting unit are expected to divide the duties of Steve Farber, who resigned in April to become senior vice president of operations at Weigel Broadcasting, overseeing WCIU-Channel 26 and the Chicago-based company’s digital network operations.

Tribune Media spokesman Gary Weitman declined to comment.

Farber, a 20-year veteran of Tribune Media and former acting general manager of WGN-Channel 9, succeeded Bob Ramsey, who stepped down as executive vice president of local media at Weigel Broadcasting. Farber had been overseeing Tribune Broadcasting’s digital networks as senior vice president of operations since 2013.

In announcing the appointment, Norman Shapiro, chairman of Weigel Broadcasting, cited Farber’s “rich background in broadcast and digital operations, which fit perfectly within our current and future business plans.”

Farber confirmed that he’s been on the job since April 20. “Great group here,” he added.
