Listeners to WSCR AM 670 once knew him as “Jason from Evanston,” a frequent caller to the CBS Radio sports/talk station. Now Jason Goff is about to become a Monday-through-Friday midday personality on the Score.

Matt Spiegel announced on the air Wednesday that Goff will be joining him as co-host of the show, which airs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays. “The Spiegel and Goff Show” starts Monday.

Goff, 34, succeeds Patrick Mannelly, who stepped down after five months as Speigel’s co-host. The Score tried to rehire Spiegel’s longtime former partner, Dan McNeil, who opted to join Hubbard Radio classic hits WDRV FM 97.1 as morning co-host instead.

It’s a happy return to The Score for Goff, who attended Evanston Township High School and Southern Illinois University before joining the station in 2000. He moved up the ranks to produce Terry Boers and Dan Bernstein’s afternoon show while he honed his skills as a reporter and on-air host.

He left in 2012 to become evening host at WZGC FM, a sports/talk station in Atlanta, but that gig lasted less than two years. Back in Chicago, he most recently has been hosting sports shows for SiriusXM Satellite Radio.

“Feels good to go back to where I started,” Goff said in a statement. “There are steps in life and this is the next one. The Score was more than a radio station for me, it was family.”

Mitch Rosen, operations director of the Score, said he was “excited to have Jason back on our team,” adding: “I believe the combination of Matt Spiegel and Jason Goff will be a great winning combination that the Chicagoland audience will love. The show will be interactive through all of our digital platforms.”

Barry Rozner, sports columnist for the Daily Herald and a part-time host on the Score, also was identified as a finalist for the midday position. Score bosses earlier made overtures to hire David Kaplan from Tribune Media news/talk WGN AM 720.

In the latest Nielsen Audio survey released Tuesday, The Score tied for 13th in middays with a 3.1 percent share and cumulative weekly audience of 325,600. Among men between 25 and 54, the station ranked fourth with a 5.1 share and weekly cume of 145,600.
