His anchor ambitions thwarted in Chicago, Frank Holland is moving on to Boston.

After three years at WGN-Channel 9, Holland has left the Tribune Broadcasting station to join WCVB-TV, the ABC affiliate in Boston, where he is expected to be a third member of the weekend anchor team and report during the week.

Holland came to WGN in 2011 to anchor from 4 to 5:30 a.m. Monday through Friday alongside Erin McElroy. After two years on the early morning anchor desk, he was replaced by Dan Ponce and shifted to afternoon and evening reporting duties.

“I loved waking up with Chicago in the beginning and I love bringing the news to you at night now,” Holland wrote on his Facebook page Friday, his last day at WGN. “I will always remember all the great people I met here, the great experiences and special moments.”

The Philadelphia native and University of Pittsburgh graduate previously worked at WDIV-TV, the NBC affiliate in Detroit.
