Fox 32 intern coming back as anchor

Alexa Helms, who spent three months as an intern at WFLD-Channel 32 in 2008, appears to be headed back to the Fox-owned station as weekend news anchor.

Sources said Helms is expected to fill the 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday anchor slot that’s been vacant since Amara Walker resigned last December to move to Atlanta. Walker subsequently joined CNN International as an anchor.

Helms most recently was a general assignment reporter at WSVN-TV, the Fox affiliate in Miami, which she joined in October 2012. The station’s website no longer lists her on staff.

A Dallas native and 2009 graduate of the University of Oklahoma, she served as an intern at Fox 32 and KTUZ-TV, the Telemundo Spanish-language station in Oklahoma City. She later worked as a weekend anchor and reporter for KTSM-TV, the NBC affiliate in El Paso, Texas.

Since Walker left Fox 32, reporter Lisa Chavarria has been filling in alongside Larry Yellen on weekend newscasts.
