Greg Cameron has resigned as chief operating officer of WTTW Channel 11 and WFMT 98.7 FM to become executive director of the Joffrey Ballet.

The position has been open since March when Christopher Clinton Conway left after eight years with the renowned Chicago-based dance company.

"For the past five years, Greg has advanced our efforts in all realms but particularly on the development front, and we are extremely grateful for his expertise, creativity, positivity, and hard work," Dan Schmidt, chief executive officer of WTTW, told staffers in a memo Tuesday. "This is an excellent opportunity for Greg, and we will miss his many talents."

Cameron joined WTTW as executive vice president and chief development officer in 2008 from the Museum of Contemporary Art, where he was deputy director and chief development officer. He was promoted to COO of the public television company Window to the World Communications in 2011.

Schmidt said Cameron's last day at WTTW will be June 28. "We are working quickly to establish a search effort and we will be in touch with you as transition plans progress," he wrote. "With strong forward momentum, I want to assure you that we will continue to advance all of our development projects."
